Well - as most of you now know, we made it to Washington!!! Here are a few pictures of our trip through the mountains!
The boys were eager to get to their new home! This is the best picture I snapped on the trip. :-)
If you're following my activity on facebook, then you probably know our struggle to get a place to live, but I'll detail it now.
We made it to Washington pretty uneventfully. It was a long last leg of the trip. It's always the last part of a long trip that seems to take the longest. But we made it all in one piece with our brains in tact.
So we got into town on Saturday night and had time to explore downtown Tacoma a little bit. It's right on Commencement Bay so it was a bit chilly. We ended up on Ruston Way, eating at Duke's Chowder House. I had the most amazing chowder I've ever had. YUM. We will definitely be eating there again.
On Sunday we slepted in and got up to putz around base a little bit. We wanted to go drive through some of the housing and find our way to the important things on base (Welcome Center, Post Exchange, Commissary, etc...). We were so glad that we had that opportunity because on Monday morning we had to be on post by 8AM to get signed into Housing.
Luckily, when we got there, we were told that they had just opened up a whole other section of newer housing for Wes's pay grade. This was fabulous news for us because we didn't want to have to wait to long for housing. I anticipated waiting a couple weeks, so we didn't expect to get housing right away. Which meant our stuff (which is supposed to be delivered on the 24th) was going to have to go into storage, which meant that there was even more of a chance that stuff could go missing, or break. But NOW! We don't have to worry about that because we get to move our stuff directly from the truck into our first real home! We are thrilled.
For those of you that haven't seen it, here is a picture of our new house:
It is a 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, duplex. The exterior is green with white trim. The interior has 12' ceilings on the first floor with a large living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room and mud room. It's so wonderful. We couldn't be luckier that this is our new home!
We won't have internet for a few days, so I'll either have to go to the PX to post a new blog with an interior tour of our new place, or I'll just post them to facebook. I'd like to do an interior tour via blog, so keep an eye out for that.
Wes and I are so excited to conclude our "homelessness" and to make a home cooked meal in our new kitchen!!!!
